Practise Pointers:
Ensure you practise soon after your lesson while everything is still fresh in your memory.
Make it a routine - establish a regular days and times. I recommend at least four times a week.
Warm up: scale, exercise or chord work – they warm up fingers, develop techniques and help to learn pieces quicker.
Improvisation: Creative process and helps you understand the music and make connections in music. Maybe use notes, rhythms or chords from pieces or scales and get creative.
Pieces – break down the task and focus on the area you are finding challenging. Learn to play small sections confidently hands separately, before slowly putting them hands together.
Celebrate: Enjoy old pieces or working out other tunes by ear.
Support: Most children will need support in remembering to play their instrument at home, and it can be very valuable to create opportunities for them to show you what they have learned.
